Arnel Pineda suggests ‘Crazy Little Asian’ as title to his biopic film

Arnel Pineda’s biographic film is finally in the works.

According to the lead vocalist of American rock band Journey, shooting for the film has already begun. The biopic is directed by Jon Chu, the director of the Hollywood film Crazy Rich Asians.

“As of now, hindi pa tapos. We’re still in the process of interview and shoot with John M. Chu and the scriptwriter who made the movie, Joker, si Scott Silver,” Arnel said in a report from Pilipino Star Ngayon.

It was last December 2018 when Chu, inspired by the success of his all-Asian film Crazy Rich Asians, announced that he was partnering with Warner Bros. to make a movie based on Arnel’s life story.

“This story in particular has been on my mind since I first read about it years ago. A true fairy tale and triumph of the human spirit,” the Chinese-American filmmaker was quoted as saying in a report by US website Deadline.

According to Arnel, the producers of the film wanted to show people the exact events of his life.

“Ini-interview nila ako pero medyo marami pa kaming kailangan para mas detailed. Kasi medyo matagal na. So gusto nila detailed talaga. Ang gagawin kasi nila is from yung start na bago ako maging member ng Journey band. Simula nung may sakit ang nanay ko, pinapaalis kami sa apartment, namatay ang mother ko, nagkahiwa-hiwalay kami. Hanggang sa napasali akong sa Journey,” he explained.

If it was up to him, Arnel wanted the title for his film to be “Crazy Little Asian”.

“Parang maganda siyang gawin na ‘Crazy Little Asian.’ Kasi yung una ‘Crazy Rich Asian,’ dahil hindi naman ako rich, little Asian na lang, pwede di ba?” he joked.
