Resham Saeed wants to prove that she’s not your typical beauty queen. Throughout her Binibining Pilipinas journey, she has always been vocal about her belief that we should all celebrate our differences.
Now that she is on her way to compete at the Miss Supranational 2019 in Poland, she is still firm in advocating for gender equality and women empowerment.
Muslim beauty queens like Resham rarely get crowned in pageants. Because of this, she believes she represents diversity in her journey towards the Miss Supranational crown.
“Everyone has this amazing image of Philippines’ views of diverse and I think I represent diversity,” she said at the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. send-off for her along with the other pageant representatives — Gazini Ganados for Miss Universe 2019 and Emma Tiglao for Miss Intercontinental 2019.
“I don’t look like your typical Filipina, I’m not catholic,” she explained.
“People have a lot of assumptions of me and there are many girls like myself who go through these assumptions and I’m here to show them that ‘Yes, you can.’ In that way, I feel like I’m showing many other Filipina women regardless of their race, sexual orientation, or the color of their skin that ‘Yes, you can,’” she added.
