Filipino armys were correct to think that superstar K-pop group BTS is telecommunications company Smart’s newest international endorser.
At exactly 5 p.m. today, the seven-member group — a powerhouse in the global music scene — was revealed as Smart ambassadors in a video on the telco giant’s Facebook page.
“We are here to support Smart’s goal of inspiring people to live their lives with passion and purpose no matter the challenges that lie ahead. And with that, we’re proud to announce, Simple, SMART ako!” BTS said.
Earlier today, PLDT-Smart’s CEO Manny V. Pangilinan tweeted a teaser for their event partnership today, January 18.
“You asked for it, we’re giving it to you. Watch out for the event partnership of the year at 5pm ☺️ ??,” he said.
Fans have been trying their best to decode the clues from Smart’s social media accounts.
A tweet from the Smart Twitter page hinted at “something big” that will be launching today at 5 p.m.
“7… 6… 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… Something BIG is launching at 5PM today. Stay tuned #SimpleSMARTAko,” they wrote.
One fan tried to crack the code, explaining what the “clues” meant.
Of course, armys were quick to notice that even on Instagram, the company has been sharing multiple BTS content, promoting the new Samsung mobile phone.
After the big reveal, Pangilinan encouraged the public to “be like BTS.”
“You are this country’s future. Your Passion with Purpose makes this world a better place. Be Smart. Be like BTS,” he wrote.
BTS is the latest big name from the Korean entertainment scene to be signed up by PLDT-Smart after Crash Landing On You stars Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin, and Itaewon class lead actor Park Seo Joon.
