Singer-actor and second lieutenant Ronnie Liang has been recognized by the Philippine Army for serving in the frontlines of the country’s battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ronnie received two awards at the 44th Founding Anniversary celebration of the Armor Division at the Armor Pambato Division Headquarters in Camp O’Donnell, Tarlac last June 16.

“I would like to share these awards — Meritorious Achievement Medal (MAM) Disaster Relief & Rehabilitation Operations Ribbon (DRRO) — to all the men & women in uniform who answered the call of duty in the fight against COVID-19,” wrote Ronnie in an Instagram post.

He added, “I would like to thank my Army Family headed by Army Commanding General Lt. General Gilbert Gapay & our Armor Pambato Division Family headed by MGen. Robert C. Dauz for the recognition and support.”

Ronnie has been an army reservist since 2018. In a Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho interview, he said he feels honored and fulfilled to be serving the country in this capacity.

“Isang karangalan ang makapaglingkod sa bayan, and nakakataba ng puso kapag nakikita namin, natutulungan namin na masaya sila, like ‘yung mga hinatid namin.”

Among Ronnie’s tasks were manning checkpoints, picking up and driving healthcare workers to their respective homes or workplaces, and distributing relief goods.

Meanwhile, he recently shared a behind-the-scenes video of his duty as a frontliner.
