The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was confirmed to be the cause of death of the late veteran actor Domingo “Menggie” Cobarrubias.
In a report by ABS-CBN News on Wednesday, the 66-year-old actor’s widow Gina Cobarrubias said that her husband’s COVID-19 test results from St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City in Taguig came out positive.
On March 26, the entertainment industry woke up to the news that the actor died while still waiting for his test results.
Only a few hours before Menggie passed away, however, he was able to post his final “goodbye”.
The actor last appeared in TV shows Make It With You, Beautiful Justice and The Killer Bride, as well as the Mikhail Red film Eerie.
In 1980, he won the Gawad Urian Best Supporting Actor award for his role as Sonny Gaston in the Lino Brocka film Jaguar.
ABS-CBN News also reported that his 65-year-old wife Gina is currently hospitalized at New Era Hospital in Quezon City, and is awaiting her own COVID-19 test result.
“I ask for your prayers at this time,” Gina was quoted as saying in a phone interview.
