Smart offers free WiFi, access to government sites for COVID-19-related concerns

Mobile network Smart Communications is offering free access to relevant government websites amid concerns on the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis in the country.

Smart, Sun and TNT subscribers can freely access the official websites of the Department of Health (DOH), National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) on their mobile phones, as announced on their Facebook page last Thursday, March 12.

The above-mentioned websites provide updates on the number and locations of persons under investigation (PUI) and advisories on prevention.

Smart, Sun and TNT users can also make free calls to the 911 Emergency Hotline and 8888 Citizens’ Complaint Center for COVID-19 concerns still.

In another Facebook post on Saturday, the telecommunication service also announced that they are offering “free, all-day internet connection via its Smart WiFi services at select hospitals nationwide and transport hubs in Metro Manila” to “help ensure that Filipinos have access to information in the midst of the #COVID19 community quarantine”.

“Let us work together in dealing with this health crisis by keeping ourselves informed on how to best safeguard our health and that of our families and communities during the community quarantine, as well as helping share the correct information about what is happening,” PLDT-Smart Public Affairs Head Ramon R. Isberto said in a press release.
