Regarded as Philippine showbiz industry’s oldest working actress, Anita Linda (real name: Alice Lake) has turned a year older today.
Born November 23, 1924, the veteran star is now 95 years old, making her just a few years younger than the age of Philippine cinema, which is celebrating its 100th year.
It is, indeed, fascinating how the nonagenarian actress is still able to grace the screens to this day.
The most recent film she starred in was the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino 2019 entry Circa, with the late Eddie Garcia and Enchong Dee.
Last June, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) honored Anita for her immense contribution to Philippine cinema with the Dunong ng Isang Ina event as part of the commemoration of Sandaan: 100 Years of Philippine Cinema.
FDCP chairman Liza Diño shared: “Anita Linda is truly a legend in the industry and she has helped mold Philippine Cinema through her contributions over the decades. She has been gifting us with her brilliant acting performances and serving as a pillar for generations.”
To name a few of her accomplishments, she became the oldest actress to ever win a FAMAS award at age 74, claiming the Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Ang Babae sa Bubungang Lata; and at age 83, she bagged the Best Actress award in the 10th Cinemanila International Film Festival (Southeast Asia Film Competition) for her title character Adela.
She also received numerous nominations for her impressive portrayal of her characters in the movies through the years.
In an interview with STAR’s Ricky Lo published in June 2019, Anita’s birthday wish was to be reunited with all the actors and staff she has worked with.
Meanwhile, Circa and Adela director Adolfo Alix Jr. posted his well wishes for the film icon via a Facebook post on Saturday.
Direk Adolfo wrote, “Salute to the oldest working Filipino actor! She’s just 5 years younger than Filipino cinema at 100 this year.”
