Kris Aquino said she would consider a career public service if not for her ongoing health struggles.
The “Queen of All Media” made her much-awaited television comeback on her longtime friend Boy Abunda’s talk show, “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” appearing in the first part of the program’s two-part special that aired on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
During their conversation, Abunda asked Aquino if she would consider entering politics if her circumstances were different.
The well-loved TV personality gave a firm “yes” but acknowledged that her current health condition would prevent her from taking on such a responsibility.
Aquino also opened up about her late father, former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., and his vision for her future in public service.
“My dad had always… parang ‘yun ‘yung akala ng dad ko para sa’kin,” she shared.
However, Aquino acknowledged the challenges posed by her health, saying, “But we need a miracle. Hindi ibibigay lahat”.
Despite her health struggles, Aquino expressed her desire to serve the public through the Department of Health (DOH), citing her personal experiences with medical treatment as a possible foundation for helping improve the country’s healthcare system.
“But ako, if ever, sana ma appoint na kung sino man ang mahahalal na maging ano DOH [Appointee] kasi sa experience ko,” she said.
Aquino also highlighted the importance of making medicines more affordable, suggesting that reducing taxes on imported medications could help lower their costs.
“Alam nilang hindi ako magnanakaw and ‘yung mapababa lang ang cost ng gamot, ang laking bagay na. Maybe by not taxing the importation of medicine so high, we can already make it so affordable,” she added.
She further emphasized the need for honesty and integrity among government officials, particularly those appointed to public positions.
“Feel ko kasi talaga na dapat ang mga na-appoint ‘yung alam ng taong may natabing pera na. Wala po akong sinasabi at pinariringgan ngayon but I would think we deserve honest public servants,” she concluded.
