Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and longtime partner Chloe San Jose are looking toward marriage but their wedding may come with a limited guest list.
The couple, who are celebrating six years together this year, recently opened up about their relationship and wedding plans during veteran broadcaster Karen Davila’s September 10 YouTube vlog.
Asked whether Carlos plans to invite his parents, Mark Andrew and Angelica Yulo, to the wedding, the 26-year-old gymnast said he would prefer to keep the occasion intimate to protect the couple’s happiness.
“For me, I think because, yung kasal po namin yan and… relationship po namin yan. And mas pipiliin kong kami na lang… Ayaw ko ding masira yung moment namin para sa aming dapat dalawa. Ayaw ko yung ano, e, paano po ba, mamantsahan pa,” Carlos said.
The strained relationship between Carlos and his parents became public following his historic double-gold victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Although Carlos has said he has forgiven his parents, he indicated that forgiveness does not necessarily mean including them in every milestone.
“Madami na din silang ginawa na pinatawad ko na and hanggang doon na lang din po. So, hindi po. Yes, gusto ko sa amin lang po yun, and I really want it to be really full of love and joy kapag nangyari po yun,” he said.
Chloe, meanwhile, said she would remain focused on Carlos regardless of who attends their wedding.
“Whatever the outside people do or the guests do, I think we would really have our eyes locked onto each other. So with or without them… it wouldn’t bother me as much,” she said.
Carlos has also previously spoken about choosing peace over resentment. In an appearance on Fast Talk With Boy Abunda, he said he had forgiven his parents and had tried to repair their relationship.
“Ako, wala akong galit sa puso ko… Napatawad ko po sila. Ako, tinry ko yung best ko na kausapin sila. Mapag-ayos ang lahat, pero hindi ko po hawak yung sagot na yon,” Carlos said.
