Award-winning actor Tim Curry, best known for his iconic portrayal of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”, has died at the age of 80.
The news was first reported by TMZ on Wednesday, Aug. 26, US time. According to reports, Curry died peacefully at his Los Angeles home on Tuesday night after facing serious health challenges for more than a decade.
Curry suffered a massive stroke in 2012, which required brain surgery. The health emergency left him with mobility issues and also affected his short-term memory.
In 2025, the same year he released his memoir Vagabond, Curry shared a public update on his health, revealing that he was still unable to walk.
Throughout his more than five-decade career, Curry became a beloved and prominent figure across film, television, and theater.
Beyond his role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, he was also widely known for playing the iconic villain Pennywise the Clown in the 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King’s “It”.
His extensive screen credits also included “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York”, “Annie”, “Clue”, “The Hunt for Red October”, “Muppet Treasure Island”, “Addams Family Reunion”, and “Scary Movie 2”.
