Sue Ramirez is mourning the death of her mother, Concepcion “Chit” Dodd, who passed away on Monday night, August 17, 2026.
The actress confirmed the news through her Instagram Stories on August 18, sharing a photo of them together with the heartfelt message, “Mahal na mahal na mahal kita.”
She also posted a video of rain falling as she rode in a car, writing, “Kasabay kong umiiyak ang langit.”
Chit, a longtime labor leader, had faced a health ordeal earlier this year. On January 6, Sue appealed for blood donors for her mother, who was scheduled to undergo open-heart surgery.
The family has yet to disclose the cause of Chit’s death, and it remains unclear whether her earlier medical condition was related to her passing.
Sue’s former boyfriend, Negros Occidental Third District Representative Javi Benitez, also paid tribute to Chit in a Facebook post. He remembered her as a warm and generous woman with strong principles who fiercely championed the rights and welfare of Filipino workers. Sharing a photo of Chit holding flowers, Javi wrote that this was how he would remember her and thanked her for dedicating her life to workers. He ended his tribute with, “Salamat sa imo kabuhi nga ginhalad para sa mga mamumugon. Pahuway na, Tita.”
The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) likewise expressed its condolences, honoring Chit’s decades of service to the labor movement.
She served as TUCP vice president and national president of the Confederation of Labor and Allied Social Services (CLASS), advocating for the rights and welfare of Filipino workers.
