Melai Cantiveros surprised fans after revealing that she and husband Jason Francisco quietly separated for six months before eventually reconciling.
The TV host-comedienne opened up about the rough patch on the first episode of Hello Outside World, hosted by Bianca Gonzalez and Esnyr Ranollo.
“Kami, umabot talaga sa time na naghiwalay talaga kami, pero walang nakakaalam,” Melai revealed, explaining that they chose to keep the separation private out of respect for each other and their family.
She added, “Six months talaga, hindi kami nagsama sa isang bahay. Dito ko lang talaga ito sinabi.”
Despite living apart, Melai said there was never any mudslinging between them because they remained committed to co-parenting their children.
Their reconciliation happened during a family movie outing with their child, where Jason suggested they give their marriage another shot.
“Sabi niya, i-try natin na i-work out kasi kailangan tayo ng anak natin,” Melai recalled.
The actress-host said the second chance brought them even closer.
“Nakita namin ang rapport, na in love ulit kami sa isa’t isa. Hanggang mas naging more kaming na in love sa isa’t isa dahil doon sa pinagdaanan namin,” she said.
Melai also shared that her respect for Jason only grew because of his love and dedication as a father to their children.
