Approved by pinsan?

Olivia Rodrigo is embracing her unofficial moniker as the Philippines’ “pambansang pinsan.”

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, the Filipino-American singer reacted for the first time to the affectionate nickname given to her by Filipino fans.

“I love it. I love it so much. I’ll take it. That’s amazing. Wow. I wear that with honor and pride. That’s amazing,” said the 23-year-old who’s recently released her third studio album, “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.”

The Grammy-winning artist also looked back fondly on her 2024 Manila concert, which doubled as a homecoming and benefit show, with proceeds donated to charity.

“It was one of my favorite shows I’ve ever played. It was one of the most beautiful, welcoming crowds I’ve ever witnessed in my life,” she shared.

Released on June 12, coinciding with Philippine Independence Day, Rodrigo’s new album further highlighted her connection to her Filipino roots. “I am so proud to be Filipino,” she said.

“Everyone in the Philippines is just so warm, and so encouraging, and so loving. I just take their love with me everywhere I go.”
