Dennis Padilla is saddened but respects his daughter Claudia Barretto’s decision to legally remove his surname from her name.
The actor-comedian took to Instagram to react after posting what appeared to be a copy of a court document related to a petition filed by Claudia before the Regional Trial Court Branch 302 in Quezon City.
Based on the document shared by Dennis, Claudia is seeking to change her name from Claudia Isabelle Barretto Baldivia to Claudia Isabelle Barretto, effectively removing his surname Baldivia, which is Padilla’s real family name.
While the document did not disclose the full details behind the petition, it indicated Claudia’s intention to legally adopt only the surname of her mother, Marjorie Barretto.
In his Instagram post, Padilla expressed support for his daughter’s decision despite the emotional weight it carries for him.
“Love you Claui… I respect your decision… Malungkot lang talaga,” he wrote.
The actor also included a message in the photo he shared, saying: “Kung ang lungkot ko ay kasiyahan mo, anak… Hindi magbabago ang pagmamahal ko sa’yo, Claudia.”
In a separate post, Padilla uploaded an old photo of himself with daughters Claudia and actress Julia Barretto, accompanied by a heartfelt caption.
“If my sadness will bring joy to you my children… My heart is full… Same Love Same Hope,” he wrote.
The image also carried the message: “MISS You… Julia and Claudia Baldivia…. With or without the family name.”
It can be recalled that Julia had also previously considered changing her surname in 2014. However, she eventually decided against it and continued using her father’s surname.
As of writing, Claudia has yet to publicly comment on the reported petition or the reasons behind her request to legally alter her name.
