Filmmaker Dan Villegas is set to helm the upcoming romantic drama “Almost Us,” starring loveteam JM Ibarra and Sofia “Fyang” Smith in their first full-length film together.
Villegas, known for directing romantic films such as “English Only, Please,” “The Breakup Playlist” and “Walang Forever,” brings his signature modern storytelling style to the film headlined by one of the hottest love teams as their first major big-screen collaboration.
Produced by Regal Entertainment and Project 8 Projects, the film marks another collaboration between Villegas and filmmaker-producer Antoinette Jadaone, whose creative partnership has produced beloved modern Filipino romance films.
“Almost Us” centers on two young people navigating friendship, love, and the complicated emotions that come with relationships that are almost—but not quite—meant to be. The story explores the bittersweet reality of connections, through moments of vulnerability, humor, and longing, that shape people’s lives even if they do not ultimately last.
Regal Entertainment and Project 8 Projects recently excited fans with glimpses of the film with first-look photos and an official teaser showcasing JM and Sofia’s natural chemistry, along with intimate moments between the lead stars that hint at a story filled with relatable experiences of young love, missed timing, and emotional growth.
Ibarra and Smith first captured public attention as housemates on the reality show Pinoy Big Brother (PBB), where they quickly drew a devoted fanbase who fondly refer to their pairing as “JMFyang.”
“Almost Us” is set to premiere in cinemas nationwide on May 6, 2026.
