Actress Kylie Padilla cleared the air after her remark about leaving the Philippines went viral amid talk of her dad, Robin Padilla, possibly running for vice president.
Kylie made the comment in a TV5 ambush interview when asked about reports that the senator would consider running for vice president if former president Rodrigo Duterte asked him to do so.
“Aalis na ko ng Pilipinas,” Kylie repeatedly said in the video while laughing.
The line quickly made the rounds online, but Kylie later explained on Facebook that she was joking and simply speaking from her desire to live a “calm, peaceful, and quiet life.”
The clip quickly circulated online and drew mixed reactions, especially as supporters floated the idea of Robin potentially running in tandem with Vice President Sara Duterte in 2028. Robin had earlier said he would only seek the country’s second-highest post if urged by Duterte, who is currently detained at the International Criminal Court.
“Please do not take my statement and use it against my father,” she wrote, adding that she admires the work he’s doing for the country.
She also made it clear there was no ill intent behind her comment. “’Di ko sinabi ’yun to insult him or anyone else. I love him and only wish for him to be happy and safe always,” she said, noting that she trusts her father’s judgment.
Robin recently caught attention after reaffirming his loyalty to Duterte and leaving the door open to a possible 2028 vice presidential bid.
