Broadcast journalist Jeff Canoy shared what he called a “miracle” amid the chaos while covering this year’s Traslacion.
On Friday, Canoy uploaded a clip showing the moment his camera fell to the ground after it suddenly loosened from its rig amid the crowd of devotees near the Andas.
“Kahapon sa Nazareno, habang nag-cocover malapit sa Andas, biglang kumalas ‘yong camera ko sa rig matapos magtumbahan kaming magkakasama sa may center island,” he said.
Canoy admitted that for a moment, he already accepted that the camera was gone for good. “For a few minutes, tinanggap ko ‘nang wala na ang camera. Kasi saan at paano ko pa hahanapin ‘yon,” he added.
However, the journalist was stunned when a devotee suddenly tapped him on the back and returned the camera, which was still recording. The video showed kind devotees passing the camera along until it finally made its way back to him.
In the video, Canoy was heard saying, “Nawala ‘yung camera ko,” before a devotee replied, “Kuya, ito ‘yung camera mo.”
“Nagulat ako at biglang may tumapik sa likod ko at inabot ‘yong camera. Pagtingin ko, naka-roll pa rin at makikita ang pagpasa-pasa para makabalik sa akin. Isang ganap na himala. Proof that even in chaos, there is always kindness,” wrote Canoy.
