Actress and It’s Showtime host Kim Chiu has filed a qualified theft complaint against her sister Lakambini Chiu after uncovering “serious financial discrepancies” in one of their joint business ventures.
According to ABS-CBN entertainment reporter MJ Felipe’s exclusive report on Tuesday, Kim submitted her sworn statement and supporting documents to the Office of the Assistant City Prosecutor in Quezon City, accompanied by her lawyers Xylene Dolor and Archernar Gregana.
“Today, nag-file si Kim ng criminal case against Lakambini Chiu… We filed a criminal complaint for qualified theft,” Dolor confirmed, adding that they cannot yet name the business involved.
Rumors about issues between the sisters had circulated months earlier, with fans speculating that the dispute involved Kim’s bag business. Dolor said the complaint covers the current fiscal year and acknowledged that Lakambini was part of the business’s management.
Dolor also shared that Kim made several attempts to address the matter privately: “She reached out and the lawyers reached out also… it has been a very difficult decision for her.”
Kim released an official statement expressing heartbreak over the situation. She explained that after months of review, she discovered “substantial amounts connected to my business assets… missing,” prompting her to pursue legal action “to protect not just my company, but also the livelihoods of the people who work with me.”
Calling it one of the “most painful steps” in her life, Kim appealed for privacy and understanding as her family goes through this difficult chapter. “Sobrang bigat,” Kim was quoted as saying off cam.
