‘She said yes!’: Dionela gets engaged to longtime girlfriend during his concert

-

“Sining” hitmaker Dionela found the perfect moment to pop the big question to his longtime girlfriend Meizy Mendoza, the muse behind most of his songs.

Moments after finishing his first set during the first day of his “Grace” tour at the New Frontier Theater, Dionela called Meizy onstage to let her sing her part from his song “Bahagahari.”

Meizy shared the spotlight and sang the chorus of the song, including the lines closely tied to their love story: “Ako ang nasa dulo ng bahaghari… Wala nang bagong darating.”

“Give it up for my girl,” said Dionela before fans began chanting “Kiss!”

The singer then turned emotional as recalled the hardships they had overcome as a couple.

“Sinamahan mo ako mula umpisa… Kasama kita nung binenta ko yung huling gitara ko tapos gusto ko na mag-quit,” he said, voice cracking. He then added, “Gusto sana kitang yayain na samahan mo ako habang buhay.”

The audience cheered as he dropped to one knee and asked, “Meizy Joaquin Mendoza, will you marry me?”

In tears, Meizy nodded, and Dionela slipped the ring onto her finger before announcing, “Everybody, she said yes!”

He previously shared how she helped him through depression in 2022, writing, “The story behind the line ‘Loving you saved me.’… My girl Meizy took care of me and helped me reignite my fire.”

During the two-night run of his concert,Dionela performed fan favorites such as “Sining,” “Marilag” and “Oksihina,” and dedicated the concert proceeds to the victims of Typhoon Uwan.

The milestone comes on the heels of his recent wins at the 38th Awit Awards, where he was awarded Best Solo Performance, Best R&B Recording, and Best Collaboration.
