K-pop girl group TWICE’s appearance at the recent Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was met with criticism online over the members’ vocals during their live performance.

On Wednesday, Oct. 15 (US Time), the group’s four members, Nayeon, Momo, Jihyo, and Tzuyu made their runway debut at the popular fashion brand’s fashion event in New York, where they performed their hit songs “THIS IS FOR” and “Strategy.”

With five members absent, the idols redistributed the lines from both tracks among the four performing members.

Despite the positive reactions from their delighted fans known as Once, online responses were largely negative, with netizens criticizing the group’s live vocals and calling it “horrible,” even labeling it the “worst” and “most boring” performance in Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show history.

Shortly after the show ended, Tzuyu took to Bubble, a messaging app for fans and K-pop idols, to issue an apology over her performance.

“ONCE, I’m sorry…”, her message began.

“Before coming to New York, I warmed up my throat with a vocal teacher, but after arriving in New York, my throat got worse and worse.. My voice was still good during rehearsal, but it got worse during the actual performance and I couldn’t make a sound because I had phlegm in my throat,” explained Tzuyu.

“So even though I drank honey tea and did a lot of things because my throat hurt,” she added.

Tzuyu’s last message included a promise to their fans to perform better in the future.

“I’ll show you a better performance next time!”, the singer wrote.

Following her apology, fans rallied behind Tzuyu with supportive and comforting messages on social media, defending the idol from negative comments.

“We love you Tzuyu, you did your best,” a fan wrote on X.

“TWICE just released three albums in the span of four months, with back-to-back promotions (movies, TV shows, fan events, brand endorsements), all while being in the middle of a tour with little time to rest. Tzuyu really did well and still pushed through it,” a user defended the idol on X.

“It’s understandable, the girls are in the middle of a world tour and didn’t even have time to rest, but they did very well and above all they sing live,” added another.

The group recently concluded their “THIS IS FOR” show at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan as part of their two-part world tour which included from Asia, Europe, and US stops. They also celebrated their 10th debut anniversary with the release of their special album “TEN: The Story Goes On”.
