Cebuana actress-host Kim Chiu prioritized sending aid to the victims of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in her home province of Cebu despite having a busy schedule.
Kim was reportedly taping for her upcoming series, “The Alibi”, when she and her team experienced the tremor firsthand.
Amid the taping, photos and testimonies circulating on social media showed Chiu personally buying construction materials to help rebuild homes for her fellow kababayans affected by the disaster.
On her official Facebook page, the It’s Showtime host shared images of herself inside what appeared to be a warehouse where the donations were being prepared.
TV producer Carlina Dela Merced praised Chiu’s dedication while coordinating the relief efforts.
“Here in Kim’s room. She’s busy coordinating the donations she’s giving here in Cebu. Kung maririnig nyo lang kung paano siya maging concern… Nakaka-touch talaga. ♥️🥹” Merced wrote.
An X user also shared a video of Chiu attending to paperwork for the donations, further showing her hands-on approach in helping the affected communities.
Another user shared a photo of Kim looking over 10-wheeler trucks being loaded with the donated construction materials.
Chiu is not alone in extending support for the earthquake victims as her fellow Cebuano personalities, including former PBB housemates Slater Young, Shuvee Etrata, and AZ Martinez, as well as veteran singers Vina Morales and Zsa Zsa Padilla, have called for prayers and contributed food packs and monetary aid directly to Cebu’s Capitol Command.
The province of Cebu has been placed under a state of calamity following the earthquake, which has claimed 69 lives as of this writing, according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD). The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), through Secretary Vince Dizon, reported that initial estimated damages in northern Cebu have reached P2 billion.
