“Idol Kids Philippines” has crowned its first-ever grand champion, with nine-year-old Alexa Mendoza earning the title during the show’s Final Showdown on Sunday, September 28.

The nine-year-old “kiddie hopeful” from Laguna impressed both the judges and the voting public with her strong performances of the original song “Maaabot Ko” and her rendition of the OPM band Eraserheads’ classic “Ang Huling El Bimbo.”

Mendoza garnered an overwhelming 98.88% of the combined public votes and judges’ scores, securing her victory.

The finale also featured original songs from the other Top 3 contenders: Klied with “Pakinggan Mo” and Quinn with “Dalangin.” All three tracks, including Alexa’s winning piece, were produced by award-winning songwriter and producer Jonathan Manalo.

As grand winner, the young singer took home an exclusive contract with StarPop and a cash prize of over P1 million.

In a post-show interview with ABS-CBN News reporter Anna Cerezo, Alexa, fondly described by her parents as their “miracle child” since her mother gave birth to her at age 42, shared that she plans to use part of her winnings to help her classmates who lack school supplies, while her parents said they intend to save for her education.
