‘Gusto ko pa mabuhay’: Comedian Ate Gay battling stage 4 cancer

-

Comedian Ate Gay, or Gil Morales in real life, has opened up about his struggle with stage 4 cancer.

According to Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, the comedian has taken a pause from his career as he prays for strength and a miracle in his fight against the disease.

In the interview, Ate Gay recounted how the illness began with swelling and facial asymmetry, which was first thought to be benign. A second opinion later confirmed it was cancer.

“May kanser ako, stage 4 daw. Ang sabi, hindi na ako aabutin ng 2026. Hindi na rin daw ako puwedeng operahan. Wala raw lunas. Masakit sa akin,” he said.

Comedian Eric Nicolas also shared a video of Allan K revealing Ate Gay’s condition during a comedy bar show on September 19.

In the clip, Allan K explained that he had long known about Ate Gay’s illness and wanted to hold a benefit show, but Ate Gay was hesitant because he did not want to “bother” others.

“Matibay at matatag si Ate Gay. Nag-iisa siya sa buhay pero lumalaban,” Allan K said, recalling how Ate Gay once asked for his help in finding a doctor despite being told his cancer was incurable.

“‘Baka may kilala kang magaling na doktor na dalubhasa na pwede akong operahan. Pa-sponsor naman ako. Gusto ko pang mabuhay,’” Allan K added, becoming emotional as he recalled Ate Gay’s message.

Despite his condition, Ate Gay continues to hold on to faith and hope. “Halos araw-araw umiiyak ako. Hindi naman ako nagkulang kay Lord,” he said, before asking for prayers.

“Although lagi kong sinasabi na walang himala, kailangan ko po ng dasal. Kailangan ko po ng lakas at sana po makayanan ko ang araw-araw kong buhay sa ngayon.”

It can be recalled that Ate Gay survived his battle with pneumonia in 2021.
