K-pop boy group EXO is set to make its return this December, sparking excitement among fans eager to see the group together again.
The group teased the possible comeback and reunion on Monday, Sept. 8, that coincided with the total lunar eclipse.
On their official social media pages, the announcement included a photo of an eclipse and a line from their 2012 “MAMA” music video intro: “The day the Red Force is purified and the legends reunite into one perfect root, a new world shall open up.”
The comeback comes as most members are either completing or have already finished their mandatory military service. Kai ended his enlistment last February, while Sehun is expected to be discharged by September. This paves the way for what could be their first full-group activity in several years.
During his speech at the Asia Artist Awards, leader Suho gave a hint about the group’s plans, saying that once everyone had fulfilled their military duties, EXO would “return together and meet fans again.”
Although details of the December project have not been revealed, many industry insiders and fans believe the group may release a special winter single before moving on to a larger-scale comeback in 2025.
Winter-themed music has long been part of EXO’s identity, with songs like Miracles in December (2013), Sing for You (2015), and For Life (2016) remaining fan favorites. Another release this holiday season would add to that tradition while marking a new chapter for the group following their hiatus.
Since debuting in 2012, EXO has established itself as one of K-pop’s most influential acts, known for its strong performances and emotional ballads. With their return scheduled for the holiday season, expectations are high that the group will once again capture the charts while delivering both nostalgia and something new for their fans.
