A surprise breakup in the second season of Netflix’s hit series “Wednesday” has left Pinoy fans talking.
This is because the unfolded not in English but in the Filipino language, paid tribute to the roots of one of its characters, Bruno Yuson.
In the sixth episode, Bruno, portrayed by Filipino-American actor Noah B. Taylor, is seen secretly taking a phone call after receiving a message written in Filipino. The call, however, turned out to be more than what he claimed.
“Miss na kita. Miss ko na ‘yung pagpasyal natin sa beach. Miss ko na lalo ‘yung mga matamis na labi mo. Baba ko na ‘to, mahal ko,” Bruno said over the phone, words meant for a secret lover, not for his supposed “mother” as he tried to explain to his girlfriend Enid Sinclair, played by American actress Emma Myers.
The scene quickly escalated after Enid, whose body at the time was possessed by Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) due to a supernatural switch, confronted Bruno about the intimate conversation. Although Bruno insisted he was speaking to his mother, Enid dismissed the excuse, mocking his words before ultimately breaking up with him — also in Filipino.
A confused Bruno then asked Enid how she understood the language. She retorted that she learned Tagalog from Datu, her “Filipino fencing instructor,” before ending the relationship. Bruno, cornered, could only repeat that his situation was “complicated.”
The breakup scene has naturally drawn attention from the Filipino fans of the show. Taylor, whose mother is Filipino and father is American, revealed in past interviews that he went through multiple auditions and retakes before landing the role of Bruno Yuson. Outside of acting, he is also a musician.
Netflix released the first four episodes of “Wednesday” season 2 in August, with the remaining episodes dropping on September 3. The new season follows Wednesday’s return to Nevermore Academy, where fresh mysteries, new adversaries, and personal conflicts await.
