Coleen Garcia has given birth to her and husband Billy Crawford’s second child, a baby boy named Austin, whom she had delivered in an unexpectedly quick and painless delivery.
In her Instagram post on Monday, Sept. 1, the actress shared the surprising turn of events that led to her son’s arrival a few weeks ago, calling it an “experience of a lifetime.”
“On August 17, we welcomed our beautiful baby boy, Austin, into the world. And it was the experience of a lifetime,” the celebrity mom wrote.
Originally planning for another water birth similar to her first daughter Amari’s birth in 2020, Coleen said she arrived at the hospital already in active labor but was told her delivery could still take longer.
Despite her calm demeanor and being able to walk around, the situation changed quickly once her contractions became painful which led to their decision to bring her to the delivery room.
“When we got to the room, I stood up from the wheelchair, took a couple of steps toward the bed, then suddenly felt a tiny urge to push while I was still standing. I did once, just a little, for relief—until I felt his head coming out. I had to stop mid-push and say the baby was coming!”, the actress narrated the events.
Baby Austin was born “en caul” through what Garcia described as “two quick, silent, and surprisingly painless pushes.”
According to medicine websites, an en caul birth is a rare event where a baby is born still inside an intact amniotic sac.
“He slipped out so quickly that she (Coleen’s mother) was the one who caught him! He was born straight into her arms,” recalled Coleen. “It all happened so fast — I was supposed to get an IE, dim the lights, play some music, soak in the tub.. Instead, I gave birth like two minutes after entering the delivery room.”
Concluding her emotional post, Coleen reflected on how her second delivery differed from her first, but despite being opposites, she regarded them both as “special and beautiful in their own ways.”
