The 8th EDDYS (Entertainment Editors’ Choice) is all set to shine brighter than ever as it honors nine box-office royalties and seven film veterans in Philippine cinema as the organization’s “Box Office Heroes” and “Movie Icons” for this year.
Held at the Ceremonial Hall of the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Newport World Resorts on July 20, 2025, the awards night will be hosted by a merge of Kapuso and Kapamilya artists including Kyline Alcantara, Darren Espanto, Alexa Ilacad, and Kaila Estrada, while the Red Carpet segment will be led by DJ Mr. Fu and rising actress Alexa Miro.
For the second year of its Box Office Heroes recognition, the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) will honor standout stars whose films achieved remarkable commercial success.
Leading the list are Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards for their reunion film “Hello, Love, Again”, which earned a record-breaking P1.6 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time. Vice Ganda will also be recognized for her holiday box-office hit with “And the Breadwinner Is…”, which grossed P460 million.
Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto will be honored for the global success of “Un/Happy for You”, which pulled in over P450 million. Also receiving Box Office Hero awards are Vic Sotto and Piolo Pascual for “The Kingdom”, as well as Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid for “Green Bones”.
Another highlight of the 8th EDDYS is the tribute to veteran actors Laurice Guillen, Odette Khan, Perla Bautista, Rosemarie Gil, Eddie Mesa, Pen Medina, and National Artist for Film Kidlat Tahimik who will be honored as “Movie Icons” in recognition of their dedication and lasting contributions to the industry.
Meanwhile, six films are competing for Best Picture award, including “Green Bones”, “Hello, Love, Again”, “Isang Himala”, “Love Child”, “Outside”, and “Under a Piaya Moon”.
Competing for Best Actress are Jane Oineza, Judy Ann Santos, Marian Rivera, Mylene Dizon, Sharmaine Buencamino, and Sue Prado. Nominated for Best Supporting Actress are Chanda Romero, Cristine Reyes, Elora Españo, Kakki Teodoro, Lorna Tolentino, and Nadine Lustre.
The Best Actor category features Alden Richards, Arjo Atayde, Dennis Trillo, Joel Torre, Kokoy de Santos, Sid Lucero, and Vice Ganda. Meanwhile, the Best Supporting Actor race includes Aga Muhlach, Joross Gamboa, Miggy Jimenez, Patrick Garcia, Ronnie Lazaro, and Ruru Madrid.
In the Best Director category, the following are nominated: Carlo Ledesma (Outside), Cathy Garcia-Sampana (Hello, Love, Again), Jonathan Jurilla (Love Child), Kurt Soberano (Under a Piaya Moon), Pepe Diokno (Isang Himala), and Zig Dulay (Green Bones).
SPEEd will also hand out 14 awards in acting and technical categories based on Filipino films released in cinemas and digital platforms in 2024.
The highly anticipated awards night not only celebrates cinematic excellence but also serves a greater purpose by supporting children with critical medical conditions through the “Little Ark Foundation”, this year’s chosen beneficiary.
SPEEd president Salve Asis announced that all proceeds from this year’s EDDYS goes will benefit the Little Ark Foundation, a non-governmental organization supporting children with cancer, thalassemia, and other life-threatening illnesses.
“This year, The EDDYS goes beyond recognizing cinematic excellence by standing with children who are bravely fighting for their lives,” said Asis. “Through our support of the Little Ark Foundation, we hope to help ease their journey and bring attention to the crucial work being done for these young patients and their families.”
The 8th EDDYS will air via delayed telecast on Kapamilya Channel and Jeepney TV, and will also stream worldwide via iWantTFC on Sunday, July 27.
