LTO suspends content creator’s driving license over viral video of ‘distracted driving’

-

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended for 90 days the license of a Porsche driver seen using a mobile phone while driving on a highway, reportedly to create social media content.

According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, the driver was seen in a viral video holding a cellphone while operating the luxury vehicle, which he said was a clear violation of traffic laws and road safety rules.

“Anuman ang klase ng sasakyan na minamaneho ay dapat matuto pa rin tayong sumunod sa mga batas trapiko. If the driver is indeed a content creator, then there is this responsibility for him to set a good example to his followers,” said Asec. Mendoza.

In addition to the suspension of the driver’s license pending further investigation, a Show Cause Order (SCO) has also been issued, citing at least three violations: reckless driving, violation of the Anti-Distracted Driving Act, and Being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.

The last violation carries the maximum penalty of license revocation.

The LTO has summoned both the driver and the vehicle’s registered owner to appear before its Central Office and submit a written explanation to justify why they should not be held administratively liable.

The luxury vehicle has also been placed under alarm, meaning it cannot be sold or transferred until the investigation is completed.

While the LTO did not publicly disclose the identity of the driver, the viral video—with the driver’s face blurred—was credited to internet personality and entrepreneur Josh Mojica on the agency’s official Facebook page.

The clip, which is still posted on his Facebook page, shows the driver cruising in the luxury sports car while holding a cellphone, with the caption: “Life’s so fckn good when u stay masipag & pogi.”

On Monday, July 7, Mojica issued a public apology following the backlash and legal consequences from his video.

“I’m not here to play victim. I’m here to own it. Yes, I was issued a Show Cause Order for using my phone while driving. No excuses. That was my mistake. I take full responsibility,” his statement read.

Josh explained his decision to record himself came from excitement over a personal milestone.

“Let me be real, the video that sparked this? It was me, recording a quick selfie inside a Porsche. Not to show off, but to lock in a moment I never thought l’d reach this early. That wasn’t just a car. It was a milestone. A symbol of how far you can go when you stay focused, hungry, and relentless,” he explained.

Mojica acknowledged his error and embraced the “lesson of accountability”, further advising youth to follow his “mindset” and “grind” behind their success, not his “mistake.

“In growth. I’m not perfect, I’m just committed to being better than I was yesterday. To everyone still riding with me, thank you. And don’t worry… for now, l’m sticking to the backseat. Thank you. And I’m sorry,” his apology concluded.
