The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has confirmed that the viral woman captured coming out of a drainage in Makati City has indeed previously admitted to occasional drug use during an interview with social workers.
The government agency made the confirmation on Sunday, June 8, after the woman, identified as Rose Marie, appeared on YouTube vlog series “Pinoy Pawnstars” where the latter admitted to its host Boss Toyo to having vices.
According to News5, the DSWD explained that the said information which came from Rose’s prior interviews was shared in confidence and is protected under “client-social worker confidentiality”. It assured the public that the “necessary interventions are already underway”.
“Our social workers for the Pag-abot program who interviewed Rose learned of her occasional use of illegal substances. As part of the conditions, she will undergo rehabilitation, and appropriate interventions will be applied,” said Pag-abot Program Director Marilyn Moral, as quoted by the news outlet.
“Our social workers handling the case management will ensure there is a positive change in the lives of Rose and her partner so that they can be reintegrated as productive members of the community,” she added.
Rose and her husband previously received financial and livelihood assistance from the government worth P80,000 to kickstart their dream of owning a general merchandise business or sari-sari store. Aside from the incentive, the woman will also undergo financial literacy training to ensure to help ensure that her ability to manage and sustain earnings from the sari-sari store.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian also reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting Rose’s rehabilitation and recovery.
“With all the appropriate interventions, we are confident that a better Rose will emerge — a Rose whose dignity and self-worth are restored, ready and able to become a productive member of society,” Gatchalian said.
