“What haffen, Vella?” Comeback ryt! The internet’s current favorite meme has found its way back to where it all started.
Christopher Diwata, the man behind the now-iconic and widely shared phrase “What haffen, Vella?”, made a celebrated return to the ABS-CBN noontime show It’s Showtime — the very stage where he first uttered the viral words over a decade ago.
In Tuesday’s episode of the Kapamilya program, Diwata was warmly welcomed back 11 years afte he first appeared as Taylor Lautner’s “Twilight” character Jacob’s lookalike on the show’s “Kalokalike” segment.
The clip, originally uploaded on ABS-CBN’s Youtube page in 2013 resurfaced and gone viral on platforms like TikTok and Facebook, and is often quoted for its unintentionally comedic delivery and mysterious grammar.
Diwata didn’t miss a beat, treating viewers to a full-on performance that has taken the internet by storm with his iconic line: “What haffen, Vella? Why you cryin’ again? I know, vampire, right? Vampire will feyt to me.”
In a recent interview with GMA News Online, Diwata shared that he was a third-year college student when he joined the It’s Showtime segment. With limited time to prepare, he quickly searched YouTube for inspiration and improvised his now-viral lines.
“Naghanap ako sa YouTube… kung ano lang masabi ko, ‘yun na ‘yun,” he said, explaining that the performance was done in haste and without a script.
Despite the randomness, his performance became iconic and Christopher is grateful for the financial relief and recognition his unexpected virality has brought him.
