Marina Summers became the first Filipino drag queen to be invited to walk the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 in France.
Summers, who rose to fame as a finalist in the first season of “Drag Race Philippines” and later as a runner-up on “RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs. the World,” took to Instagram to recount her unforgettable experiences at the prestigious film festival.
“So so so honored to be the first Filipina drag queen to be invited to walk the red carpet,” Marina wrote in her post. “Such a big moment to be repping for the Filipino Drag and Queer community in the sea of people on the red carpet.”
Summers wore a black gown by Filipino designer Mark Bumgarner, accessorized with Miladay and Eirin jewelry. For her earlier festival looks, she sported a cream ensemble by Rajo Laurel, one of the judges of Drag Race Philippines.
In another post, the drag queen shared her excitement over receiving a personal compliment from none other than Hollywood icon Angelina Jolie during the event.
“Day 2 at the Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet ⭐️ Forever your golden girl. Quick story time: Was actually supposed to wear a different dress for this day and it didn’t arrive, thankfully Sir @rajolaurel’s archival piece was with me for the ultimate rescue!
“On top of that, I MET ANGELINA JOLIE, and she said that I LOOK GORGEOUS TONIGHT 😭”, she wrote.
According to Philstar.com, Marina is currently in the middle of her European tour, with stops in Berlin and Amsterdam before briefly pausing in Cannes to attend the festival. She is expected to continue her performances in Montpellier, France.
The 2025 Cannes Film Festival runs until May 24, with 22 films competing for the prestigious Palme d’Or.
