A millennial based in Ozamis City was moved by the love and care of her lola’s friends after she was bedridden due to liver disease.
“My lola has been sick for two months hindi na siya naging active sa church and sa social media. We really did not post before the [viral] video, ‘yung status ng health niya. Automatically lang na ‘yung mga friends niya ‘yung bumisita. So I think it’s really nice to invest on friends, good people,” Wang Roa told The Philippine STAR/LatestChika.com.
According to Wang, her Lola Soling became sick in September 2024. Since then, her body became weak day by day resulting in postponing any activities outside their home including hanging out with her neighborhood friends.
One day, her friends visited her to check on her and looked back on the beautiful memories that they made through the years.
“It’s more on reminiscing the memories na lang because her friends already know about her condition. So instead, you know, of putting more pressure or stress to Lola Soling, they’re just more on focus on discussing mga Bible verse, mga good memories in the past, and then more on just appreciating life,” she shared.
She couldn’t help but record the heartwarming moment with Lola Soling’s friends.
Recalling, “I was very emotional actually while recording the video. I would describe it as like a low-maintenance friendship. Because you don’t have to always call them, talk to them, meet up with them. But as long as you need them in your life, they will be present.”
Wang became the caregiver of her lola before she passed away on October 13, 2024, at the age of 73.
“It was definitely a peaceful death for my Lola. She was very relaxed and she was not really in pain when she died. So I believe that it still, you know, really helped her to be surrounded with those people,” she noted.
Wang also expressed gratitude to Lola Soling’s friends as they became her comfort and happy pill during her final days.
“Thank you very much for being present during the sickness of my lola and during her funeral, lahat-lahat na po. I could not imagine our life without her genuine friends, and I hope that we can still hang out together, we can still go to places together and just enjoy life, reminisce the legacy of Lola Soling,” she said.
“To be honest, before the viral video, I would always invest on quantity friends. I realized that observing the life of my lola then having those like few genuine friends in her life, I realized that I have to change my mindset. It’s okay to lose friends. It’s okay to lose people. What’s important is you never lose yourself and you always show the best version of yourself to everyone. A beautiful plot twist nga eh. In her last moments… instead na nag-iiyakan lahat-lahat, I’m learning from her life. I’m learning from her choice in life,” she reflected.
Despite losing Lola Soling, Wang was comforted with the idea that she is now pain free.
“I’m just so thankful with her life, the memories she shared with me. Kahit wala na siya dito sa house, I know that she’s up there always rooting for me to win in life,” she said when asked about her message to her lola.
As of this writing, the viral TikTok video featuring Lola Soling’s friends while visiting and singing for her, has already garnered more than 6.5 million views.
