The alleged former partner of late South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron denied claims against actor Kim Soo Hyun and his agency, saying that her emotional distress was instead caused by her family and New York-based husband.
According to multiple reports, the unnamed ex-boyfriend who was referred to as Mr. K, denied any involvement by Kim Soo Hyun or his agency, Gold Medalist, in Kim Sae-ron’s emotional distress that led to the her death.
He instead alleged that her family and New York-based husband were responsible for the hardships that ultimately resulted in her tragic passing at the age of 24 on February 16, 2025, the same day as Kim Soo Hyun’s 37th birthday.
Mr. K reportedly revealed in an interview that Kim Sae Ron allegedly suffered from physical and verbal abuse at the hands of her husband. The situation eventually worsened when her husband discovered that she was still in contact with Mr. K.
As proof, Mr. K provided screenshots of messages allegedly exchanged between him and Kim Sae Ron, where she admitted to being physically hurt and threatened by her husband.
One message from the husband read, as quoted by PEP.ph: “This is Sae Ron’s boyfriend. Stop getting in touch with her again and don’t even think about seeing her again. This is my final warning. I know you met up with her on Christmas Eve and Christmas. I’m holding back, even though I want to kill you, so I’m blocking you. Just please, f*ck off you useless piece of s*it.”
Despite the abusive situation, Kim Sae Ron reportedly confided in Mr. K, expressing fear but also an inability to report her husband due to his American nationality. She also admitted feeling trapped in the marriage, fearing for both her safety and the well-being of those close to her.
Adding to her distress, Mr. K claimed that Kim Sae Ron’s family was “indifferent” to her struggles, recalling an incident on November 1, 2024, when she attempted to take her own life and was rushed to the hospital. Despite being notified, none of her family members reportedly visited her during her recovery.
“When I brought Sae Ron home after she was discharged, her mother and her mother’s friend were casually having a meal at home,” Mr. K recounted. “She didn’t look surprised or show any signs of empathy. This kind of reaction from her family is why she always wanted to run away.”
In the latter part of the interview, Mr. K firmly denied that Kim Soo Hyun played any role in Kim Sae Ron’s death, dismissing the claims made by her family.
“As someone who knew Sae Ron better than anyone else, it’s absurd that her aunt suddenly appears, claims to be part of her bereaved family, and is now pushing the narrative that Kim Soo Hyun was responsible,” Mr. K said.
He also questioned why her biological parents had not stepped forward, suggesting that they might be the ones she was trying to escape from.
“They hardly cared when she was alive, but now that she’s gone, they’re digging up a relationship from years ago with a famous actor? There has to be an ulterior motive behind this,” he added.
As of this writing, neither Kim Soo Hyun’s camp nor Kim Sae Ron’s family has issued a response to Mr. K’s claims.
Meanwhile, Kim Soo Hyun has taken legal action against the late actress’ family for defamation, strongly denying any wrongdoings he was accussed of.
