Olympic gold medalist gymnast Carlos Yulo has officially joined the Philippine Navy (PN) Reserve Force, receiving the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class.
Yulo took his oath in a ceremony held on Tuesday at the PN headquarters at Naval Station Jose Andrada, Roxas Boulevard, Manila.
The event was led by Naval Reserve Command head Maj. Gen. Joseph Ferrous Cuison, representing Navy Chief Vice Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr., according to a PN’s news release on its official website.
Yulo expressed his gratitude for the honor, saying, “I am proud to have the privilege of being enlisted in the Philippine Navy Reserve Force, a recognition I never expected in my lifetime.”
“Wearing this Navy uniform fills me with immense pride. I will uphold its core values and inspire today’s youth, showing them that through sports, they too can serve our country,” he added.
Vice Admiral Adaci, through a message delivered by Cuison, praised Yulo for his dedication and achievements, both in sports and his new role as a Navy reservist.
He highlighted Yulo’s discipline and drive, which earned him global recognition, including his recent gold victories in the men’s gymnastics floor exercise and vault events at the Summer Games.
“Your dedication, discipline, and drive made you a champion on the world stage, and now, you bring those same qualities to the PN. We know that when you commit to something, you give it your all. I am confident you will do the same as a reservist, standing alongside men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and uplifting our nation,” Adaci said.
Yulo’s enlistment marks another milestone in his already illustrious career, as he continues to inspire young athletes and serve the country both in sports and now, through the Navy Reserve Force.
