Some netizens are calling out Eldrew and Elaiza Yulo, siblings of Olympic gold athlete Carlos Yulo, for joining a TikTok dance trend that allegedly mocked people with disabilities (PWD).
An X (formerly Twitter) user reposted the video showing the siblings along with another companion dancing to the song, “Let’s Get Retawded“, by imitating its lyrics through their movements involving twitching, jerking their limbs, and uneven walking.
The video appeared to have been originally uploaded by the user @majo.joshimhae on TikTok and has now been removed from the platform.
While some netizens argued that the dance was intended to imitate a zombie, others expressed concern that the song has long mocked people with disabilities by incorporating their conditions into its lyrics and choreography.
“Sa mga nag sasabing “zombie” yung ginagaya nila hindi PWD, tignan nyo ‘to. Same challenge PWD mockery din. Ito yung pinag gayahan nila,” the uploader argued while comparing the Yulo siblings dance to another TikToker.
“They are mocking people with stroke or other patients with neurological deficit,” another netizen claimed.
“Kahit pa sabihing katuwaan lang yan, di po yan katawa tawa. Insulto po yan sa kapwa ko PWD. Hays! Kahit hearing ang disability ko,yung makakita ako ng ganyan ndi po nakakatawa. Hopefully, maturuan po sila kung paano po irespeto ang may kapansanan,” another X user commented.
Meanwhile, amid the much-publicized rift among the Yulo family, Eldrew and Elaiza previously addressed speculations about the rivalry between them and Carlos as they are also following their older brother’s footsteps in gymnastics.
