“All hail the patron saint of translation!”
The Kapuso star recently trended online after her amusing exchange with a male pageant candidate who asked the actress to translate her question during the Q&A segment of Century Tuna Superbods 2024.
Marian was joined by actors Aga Muhlach and Richard Gomez and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach as celebrity judges at last night’s competition held at the Marriott Manila Hotel.
During the the Q&A portion, the remaining 16 finalists were asked to pick from a bowl containing the names of the judges who would give them their questions.
One of the male candidates, Jether Palomo, who was later hailed as the grand winners of Century Tuna Superbods 2024 alongside model-beauty queen Justine Felizarta, picked Marian.
Rivera read the question from a paper, relaying it to Palomo, “Dumami ang followers mo sa social media nu’ng naging finalist ka. Papaano mo gagamitin ang opportunity na ito kahit natapos na ang competition na ito?”
Palomo, however, did not understand the question and asked Marian, “I’m sorry, can I take that in English, please?”
To this, Marian replied, “I will try my best. Are you ready for this,” eliciting cheers from the audience who eagerly anticipated Marian’s translation.
“Listen very carefully! Here’s my question,” she began.
“Your social media following grew when you became a finalist. How will you use this opportunity even after your Superbod journey?” she asked.
“I agree [to using] this platform [in] showing that you can be authentically you and showing who you are as a person. I’ve been one to ruin my self image and ultimately I fell apart, but those loose piece of me didn’t fall apart. They all fell into place,” Palomo answered.
He continued, “And now, I want to use that social platform to continue to inspire others on their fitness journey on becoming the best you ever. Thank you!”
Netizens took to social media their amusement over Marian’s flair in her judging stint, making the Kapuso actress trend on X Philippines.
Some even resurfaced videos of her speaking Spanish from a past Kapuso series and an AI-generated edit of her speaking multiple languages, earning the titles “patron saint of translation” and “multilingual queen” from netizens and fans alike.
