A video of First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos grabbing and drinking from Senate President (SP) Chiz Escudero’s wine glass is going viral online and gaining mixed reactions from Pinoy netizens.
The incident took place during the recently held Vin d’Honneur (wine of honor) at the Malacañang Palace on the country’s celebration of Independent last Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
The interaction quickly gained mixed reactions from online users, with some criticizing the First Lady’s actions and treatment towards Sen. Chiz during the formal event.
“Ginawang waiter si Chiz 😆,” a netizen commented on the video.
“Hala sya bat [gano’n] si first lady,” wrote another.
“She could have at least said ‘Thank you’ or offered to exchange glasses when the real waiter gave her one,” an X user suggested.
Meanwhile, some netizens asserted that the interaction between the two can be tied to their “close relationship” as colleagues.
“That’s how close she is to Chiz. She trusts Chiz. Your cup is my cup. My bread is your bread. A close knit family,” an X user wrote.
Following the circulating video, the senator’s statement addressed his interaction with the president’s wife in an interview, regarding it as a “gentlemanly” gesture.
“I consider waiting on a lady (first or otherwise) to be gentlemanly,” Escudero said in a statement.
“Maaaring sabihin ng iba na maka-luma o parang ‘under’ pero para sakin, hindi kailanman magiging maka-luma o di uso, ano man ang itawag ng iba, ang pagiging maginoo at pakikipag-kapwa tao,” he added.
