Iconic comics creator Carlo J. Caparas passes away at 80

Acclaimed director and producer Carlo J. Caparas passed away on Saturday evening, May 25, at the age of 80.

His grieving family confirmed the sad news through social media, but no details were given regarding the cause of his death.

Caparas, a renowned figure in Philippine cinema, was also celebrated for his work in comics, having created classic local characters and superheroes such as Panday, Bakekang, Joaquin Bordado, and Totoy Bato, among others.

His daughter, Peachy, bid an emotional farewell to her father on Facebook through a poem titled “SA BAWAT TIPA NG MAKINILYA… an ode to Direk Carlo J.”

Caparas’s last film was “Kamandag ng Droga,” which highlighted his continued engagement with contemporary social issues through his art.

The family announced that the wake would commence on Monday, May 27, 2024, from 12 noon to 12 midnight at Golden Haven Memorial Chapels and Crematorium, Las Piñas.
