Celebrities call justice for dog beaten to death

Several local celebrities have joined the rage online against animal cruelty and call for justice following the death of a dog mercilessly killed by a resident in Bato, Camarines Sur.

The hashtag #JusticeforKillua emerged on X’s top trending topics on Tuesday as the online community lamented the death of a labrador retriever named Killua that was beaten to death by a neighbor.

“Mahal na mahal ko yan. we found his lifeless body inside a sack,” pet owner Vina Rachell wrote in a heart-breaking post alongside photos of Killua.

The now-viral post also included CCTV footage that showed Killua running around being chased and beaten by the man.

Vina also included a clip showing her and a companion confronting the killer who deliberately unpacked the dog’s lifeless body from a sack.

As seen on a CCTV footage obtained by GMA’s 24 Oras, Killua ran loose after it reached their roof and jumped onto the road.

Furious netizens then and animal lovers expressed sympathy and aired their disgust over the killer’s ruthless act.

According to a 24 Oras report, the man claimed an older woman got attacked by Killua on the street and he helped get rid of the dog.

“Yung aso tumawid doon. Nung nakita kami, nung inaano ko yung mtanda, bumalik talagang ako naman yung sinakmal. Pumasok dun sa tindahan namin. Dalawa na ang nakagat eh,yung matanda, ako, pati yung asawa ko kakagatin pa. Kaya ko nagawa ‘yun,” the killer explained in the said report.

TV host Kim Atienza, and celebrities such as Sarah Geronimo, Carla Abellana, and Chie Filomeno also aired their grievances and spoke out against the heart-wrenching incident.

The killer could face charges for violating Republic Act No. 8485, or the Animal Welfare Act.

Violators will be imprisoned for not less than six months nor more than two years or a fine of not less than P1,000 nor more than P5,000 or both at the Court’s discretion.

Meanwhile, Killua’s owner shared in a recent Facebook post that she has already coordinated with the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to take legal actions against the killer.
