Dongyan starrer ‘Rewind’ overtakes ‘Hello, Love, Goodbye’ as highest-grossing Filipino film of all time

Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 entry Rewind starring real-life couple Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes is now the highest grossing Filipino film of all time. 

ABS-CBN producer Star Cinema announced the feat in an Instagram post, sharing that the film has recorded a P815 domestic sales and 845 million worldwide gross as of Wednesday afternoon, January 17, 2024.

The family drama film directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar is expected to surpass the 881 million worldwide gross of 2019 film Hello, Love, Goodbye that starred Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards.  

Rewind is currently showing in over 300 global cinemas including USA, Canada, Guam, Saipan, Singapore,  Australia and New Zealand and Singapore. 

A special screening was also held in Rome, Italy last Sunday, January 14.

During a thanksgiving party held on Wednesday, the married couple expressed words of gratitude to each other and all those involved in the success of the blockbuster film. 

Dingdong said being able to convey the film’s message and story to the million viewers was a mission fulfilled . 

“To my wife, to my Mary… Fulfilling this mission with you is something that I will always cherish forever, at tingin ko bihira ito mangyari ito in a lifetime na magawa ito together with a partner, on and off screen, Dingdong addressed Marian in her film character. 

Marian, on the other hand, old Dingdong, “Dad, maraming salamat… hindi ko magagawa si Mary kung hindi ikaw ang partner ko. Kung ano mang tagumpay ang meron ako, lahat yun para sayo.”

The  Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) previously announced  that the gross earnings of MMFF 2023 have reached a record-high of P1.069 billion as of January 7.
