TVJ, Dabarkads celebrate trademark case win; TAPE prohibited from using ‘Eat Bulaga’

-

Iconic trio Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey De Leon (TVJ) celebrated their triumph in their copyright infringement case against Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE) and GMA-7.

In a Facebook Live, Tito, read the court’s decision that TVJ won their ownership claim over the  trademark registration of noontime show Eat Bulaga.

In the decision dated December 22 2023, the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 273 of Marikina City granted TVJ’s Complaint against TAPE.

Following the court’s ruling, TVJ is now able to use the trademarks “EB” and “Eat Bulaga, and jingles in its shows while TAPE and GMA are prohibited to do so.

This was after TAPE failed to explain how the term “Eat Bulaga” was coined and created while Joey was able to provide evidence on how the portmanteau was established.

“Bottomline, pinanigan ng korte yung ating sinasabi na tayo po ay may-ari ng Eat Bulaga,” said Tito.

“Maraming salamat sa inyong pagtangkilik, sa mga dasal,” he added addressing their avid fans and viewers.

“Sa madaling salita, atin talaga ang Eat Bulaga,” Vic said getting emotional and asking their staff and production crew to join them on stage while their theme song “Isang libo’t isang Tuwa” played and did not refrain themselves from mentioning Eat Bulaga which they previously did before the decision.
