A Very Good Girl enjoys ‘very good’ box-office run, surpasses P100M earnings

Star Cinema’s newest dark comedy film A Very Good Girl, starring Kathryn Bernardo and Dolly de Leon, has achieved an impressive post-pandemic feat by amassing P100 million at the local box office.

Star Cinema unveiled the significant milestone, following its P75 million mark in just 10 days after its release, including its successful premiere in the United States.

In response to this achievement, the Kapamilya production company expressed gratitude to moviegoers for their outstanding support in revitalizing the local cinema industry, referencing Kathryn’s character, “Thank you for making a very good choice to get our local cinemas up and running again. Let us keep up the Philo-menal support for our local films,”

Its director, Petersen Vargas, also expressed his appreciation for the film’s success, extending heartfelt thanks to everyone who came to see his film on his personal Instagram account.

“100,000,000 THANK YOUs — I wanna hug every1 who came to see #AVeryGoodGirl in the cinemas ?❤️‍?,” Vargas wrote in the caption.

Kathryn also took to social media to celebrate their achievement, and acknowledged the contributions of the moviegoers and the A Very Good Girl team in giving hope to local cinema.

“100 million?!!! You have no idea how much this gives us hope for the Philippine cinema. Thank you so much for all your love and support! ??? Congratulations, Team AVGG! ?,” her message read.

The U.S. premiere of “A Very Good Girl” saw the presence of several Filipino-American celebrities, including Hawaii-based content creator Bretman Rock and renowned drag queen Manila Luzon.

Bernardo and De Leon themselves flew to Los Angeles to partake in the premiere and participate in various other screenings.

“A Very Good Girl” is set to grace the international screens, including Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Guam, Saipan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Nigeria, and the Middle East.

Co-written by Dominique Mancol, Daniel Saniana, and Jumbo Albano, the film features an ensemble cast including Jake Ejercito, Angel Aquino, Chie Filomeno, Donna Cariaga, Kaori Oinuma, Nathania Guerrero, and Nour Hooshmand.
