Jessica Villarubin addresses criticisms of Lead Me Lord performance during the wake of Mike Enriquez

Cebuana singer Jessica Villarubin has spoken up on criticisms of her Lead Me Lord performance at the late veteran anchor Mike Enriquez’s wake.

Jessica gave her statement to Cebu-based news outlet The Freeman addressing comments saying her performance was “over the top” and “out of solemnity” for the occasion.

“Bago po kami kumanta sa funeral ni Sir Mike ay pinaghandaan po namin yun. Buong puso ko lang kinanta ang parte na binigay sa’kin,” The Clash Season 3 winner told The Freeman.

“Andun po kami para magbigay pugay kay Sir Mike. ‘Wag po sana natin bigyan ng ibang kahulugan pa,” she clarified.

It all started after a video of Queendom’s performance of Basil Valdez’s 1985 song Lead Me Lord drew mixed reactions from netizens after some accused Jessica of “upstaging” her co-singers.

Queendom is an all-female singing group composed of divas from GMA’s variety program All-Out Sundays.

It is composed of members Julie Anne San Jose, Rita Daniela, Thea Astley, Mariane Osabel, Hannah Precillas, and Jessica Villarubin who performed as a group for the GMA Night special tribute dedicated to the well-loved newscaster last Sept. 1 at Christ The King Parish in Greenmeadows, Quezon City.
