‘Parang lahat tayo nakapatay ang cellphone’: Paolo, Betong and Buboy joke about first day hosting Eat Bulaga

“Proud ako sa nagawa natin,” GMA Entertainment quoted Paolo Contis on his first episode as one of the new hosts of the noontime show Eat Bulaga.

The longest-running noontime show returned on air on Monday, June 5, with new faces for its hosts. Along with Paolo, the episode introduced Betong Sumaya, Buboy Villar, Alexa Miro, and twins Mavy and Cassy Legaspi as the new set of Dabarkads.

The replacements drew mixed reactions from netizens and bashers alike, but that did not stop the hosts from trying to bring joy to their viewers.

On the second episode, which aired on Tuesday, June 6, Paolo asked his co-hosts how their first days at work went during the show’s opening number.

“It’s mind-boggling and adrenalin-pumping,” Betong was the first to answer.

Paolo countered jokingly, “Napansin ko, parang lahat tayo nakapatay lahat ang cellphone.”

“Alam mo, pinaputol ko ang line ko,” Betong retorted.

Buboy chimed in their banter with another joke, “Pinakontak ko yung snatcher, ‘Please, snatch my phone.’”

Despite the flak and pressure on their new jobs as “Dabarkads of the longest-running noontime show,” the hosts were delighted with the turnout of their first episode together.

Paolo put his sentiments into words, “Ako, proud ako. Proud ako sa nagawa natin. Masaya ako na nagawa natin ang isang malinis na show para sa mga Dabarkads natin regardless of whatever. God bless sa atin.”

In the recent episode, Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michelle Dee and Tiktok personalities Gabby and Kiel Gueco, popularly known as Gueco Twins, also joined the show as guest hosts for the day.

The iconic trio, Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey De Leon, also known as “TVJ,” announced their departure from the noontime show on May 31, due to a conflict with its producer TAPE, Inc. Fellow “Dabarkads” signed their resignation letters right after the original hosts cut ties with the blocktime producer.
