Senator Koko Pimentel asked to be dissociated from news about his ex-wife Jewel Lobaton’s arrest.
Amid reports of the former beauty queen being arrested in Laoag City for estafa, Pimentel took to his social media accounts on Thursday to call on media practitioners “to desist from mentioning me or the Pimentel name in connection (with) news about the arrest of Jewel Lobaton.”
“The marriage has long been dissolved/declared null & void by the court & by the church. Meaning, Jewel Lobaton has no right to use the surname Pimentel,” stressed the Senate Minoity Leader.
Some netizens, meanwhile, pointed out that the lawmaker’s surname was used in the mugshots of the Bilipininang Pilipinas Universe 1998 titleholder.
Pimentel and Lobaton’s marriage was annulled in 2018, years after they went their separate ways in 2012.
Pimentel tied the knot with current wife Kathryn Yu in October 2018.
