Local celebrities react to Queen Elizabeth II’s passing

Several local celebrities such as Anne Curtis, Bela Padilla and Derek Ramsay have taken to social media to mourn the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Around past midnight on Friday (Philippine time),The Royal Family announced the Britain’s longest reigning monarch’s passing in a statement, saying that the “queen died peacefully” at Balmoral. She was 96.

After seven decades on the throne, the late queen will be replaced by her son King Charles III. 

In a statement, Charles described his mother’s demise as “a moment of greatest sadness for me and all my family members”. 

“We deeply mourn the passing of a dear sovereign and a much-loved mother,” he said. 

As the United Kingdom begins its 10-day period of mourning, here are some local celebrities who paid tribute to the late monarch.

Half-British Bela Padilla posted via Instagram stories a photo of the double rainbow she witnessed on the day of the queen’s passing as she arrived back in London.

“Before landing in London earlier, I had a sense this would happen. This rainbow greeted us as soon as we got out. The sun came out, really unexpectedly. But the odd thing was that the city was moving but there was a silence around us,” she shared. 

“The London Bridge has fallen,” the actress wrote in an earlier Instagram story. 

Filipino-British Derek Ramsay, meanwhile, on Instagram story, wrote “RIP” with crying emojis alongside a BBC report of Elizabeth’s death. 

Filipino-Australian actress Anne Curtis and sister Jasmine Curtis also took to their respective social media accounts to pay respects to the late queen.The British monarch was the head of state in Australia.

“May Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, Rest In Peace,” Anne said in a tweet.

Karla Estrada, Jake Ejercito, and Solenn Heusaff were also spotted sharing their reactions to the sad news on social media.
