Judy Ann Santos is just one of the many consumers “crying” over the increased prices of onions.
The actress and food content creator shared her shock over the price of a kilo of white onions in a series of Instagram stories.
“Sibuyas na puti!! Nakakaloka ka! Dati kelangan ka munang hiwain bago maluha… Ngayon, naiisip pa lang kita naiiyak na ko sa presyo mo,” she wrote.
On another Instagram story, the celebrity mom jokingly cradled her bag of onions.
She wrote in the caption: “Pero dahil kelangan kita… Kesa mas kailangan mo ko, huhug kita at nanamnamin kita bago kita iluto… Importanteng namnamin ka bilang 550 ka per kilo! Kalerks.”
The Department of Agriculture (DA) has already confirmed the lack of white onions in the market. DA Undersecretary Kristine Evangelista said their inventory also lacked white onions.
Meanwhile, Senator Imee Marcos slammed the DA’s plan to import white onions to address the shortage of supply.
“The DA was urged to assess white onion shortage, as it was asked on sugar and porcine PAP (processed animal protein) shortages. Again, no data could be presented, just blanket claims that the warehouses we inspected were really empty,” she said.
