South Korean star Ji Chang-wook is set to add his wonderous touch to the upcoming Netflix show, The Sound of Magic.
The singer-actor recently gushed over his role as a mysterious, fun-loving magician for Itaewon Class’ director Kim Song-youn’s six-episode fantasy music drama series.
Chang-wook told the press during the series’ media conference on Tuesday how it was a “a chance of a lifetime” for him to play Ri Eul, along with his stellar castmates Choi Sung-eun and Hwang In-youp.
“He is a mysterious magician. He is a grown-up but he likes magic and while he’s all grown-up, he wants to forever stay a child,” he described Ri Eul.
For his first time to play as a man of magic, the Lovestruck in the City star opened up about its difficulty and even joked about never taking a magician role again.
“It was truly a new experience. Of course, there were very challenging parts but I also think to myself – This is a chance of a lifetime. When would I have this opportunity to act, sing, dance, and on top of that do magic,” he said.
Compared to his work in musical theater, Chang-wook admits singing on camera was completely different from performing on stage.
“It was unlike the stage when I worked on past musicals. I didn’t make that connection at all because the tone of manner was a lot more lighter and in terms of the mechanism, it’s completely different from being on stage,” Chang-wook explained.
Sprinkled with fun tunes along the way, The Sound of Magic features the story of a young girl who was forced to grow up and let go of her childhood dream of becoming a magician.
Catch the magic on May 6, Friday exclusively on Netflix.
