Drivers United for Mass Progress and Equal Rights (DUMPER) Party-list Rep. Claudine Bautista has sued Enchong Dee over his comments on her “lavish” wedding, a report said.
Bautista tied the knot with Jose French Lim at the Balesin Island in February of this year.
The athlete-actor was one of the celebrities and netizens who criticized the representative of a party-list that focuses on marginalized public utility drivers (PUV), for her Michael Cinco bridal gown and allegedly extravagant wedding amid the pandemic, a Philstar.com report said.
In a report by PEP.ph, it was revealed that Bautista filed a cyber libel complaint against Dee at the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Davao Occidental last August.
She alleged that Dee’s statement on Twitter as “defamatory” and “malicious”.
In her complaint, she said that Enchong “went as far as saying that I used public coffers to fund my wedding by categorically saying that ‘The money for commuters and drivers went to her wedding’, to the detriment and injury to my honor and name…”
“The posts were meant nothing more than their malicious intentions of maligning my person, depicting me as a corrupt public official,” she added.
The report further said that Bautista is seeking P500,000,000 in moral damages and another P500,000,000 in exemplary damages, amounting to a total of P1 billion damages, against the actor.
It was in August when Dee issued a statement on social media, apologizing to the congresswoman for his lapse in judgment.
“With deep regret, I would like to apologize to Congresswoman Claudine Bautista, her husband, their families, and the Dumper Partylist. I reacted based on impulse without thinking of the consequences nor the harm it may cause,” he wrote.
