Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray took to social media to share her musings about the use of filters on photos.
The Australian-Filipina beauty shared how fun filters have become for expressing yourself on social media but she can’t deny the many times she would compared her “filtered” reality to the one without.
“BUT there are so many times I’ve scrolled through social media not taking into account that I’m subconsciously comparing my reality with a filter,” she said.
The 27-year-old shared how she is a believer of defining beauty with our own standards, not the standards set by the media.
“Our definition of beauty is constantly being defined by standards, what we see in the media and what we’re told. But I’m a believer that your beauty should be defined by YOU,” she said.
She then shared her learnings from a quote she read recently about how the moon and stars don’t turn out as how people expect them to be on camera.
“I read a quote online recently about how, when we take photos of the moon and stars of the night sky using a camera and it doesn’t turn out, we easily recognize that the sky is really beautiful in reality, but it’s the camera that’s not able to capture it. What if we accepted that our beauty isn’t meant to be experienced through a lens?” she asked.
With this thought, Catriona reminded her followers that they are beautiful, worthy and capable.
